Controlling Ball Flight Trajectory |

|
CONTROLLING TRAJECTORY - One key factor to becoming a better player is learning to create different ball flight trajectories on command. It is this part of your game that will allow you to effectively succeed in a variety of situations. These easy tips will help allow you to throw it high or knock it low just like the pros.
KEEP IT LOW -
1. Ball Back In Stance The ball should be anywhere from the inside of your back foot to the middle of your stance. 2. Weight Forward This helps de-loft the clubface and ensures a steep, descending blow. 3. Shoulders Level Try to match your shoulders parallel to the ground. When the move is accomplished, you will FEEL like the leading shoulder is lower because of your normal setup. 4. Hands Forward Leaning the hands and shaft toward the target helps to de-loft the face. 5. Swing Slow A softer swing pace will lower the ball’s spin rate and prevent a ballooning ball flight. Swing with rhythm and tempo thinking primarily about balance. 6. Finish Low Do not make a full finish. Try to hold the club head below your waistline or shoulders as if you were swinging in a room with low ceilings.
THROW IT HIGH -
1. Ball Forward In Stance Position the ball toward your left heel to ensure you catch the ball on an ascending blow. 2. Weight Back Weight should be favoring the right side or on the back foot. 3. Right Shoulder Low Be sure that your back shoulder is tilted lower than your front at address. To get this feel, make sure the torso is tilted away from the target. 4. Hands In Center Maintain a good hand position here by keeping them in the center of your stance. Try not to get the hands too far in front of the ball, which can result in de-lofting the clubface. 5. Be Aggressive Don’t be afraid to dig deep for a little extra club head speed. The speed will create lift for this shot. 6. Finish High A high shot needs a high finish. Finish in balance with your hands and arms back over your front shoulder. In addition to these setup and swing tips, one of the easiest ways to dictate flight is to choose the appropriate club. For low shots, select one more club than needed, choke down on the handle a few inches and execute a smooth, abbreviated swing. For higher shots, take less club and get even more aggressive. As always, be sure to practice these tips on the range before you pull the T.V. shots out of the bag at your course! |
